INNER LANDSCAPE – Lithographs by Matti Hintikka
On view: March 28 - April 29, 2022
Location: Consulate General of Finland in New York, 605 3rd Ave
INNER LANDSCAPE, a solo exhibition by Finnish artist Matti Hintikka, presents a series
of stone lithography works originally exhibited at Galleria Duetto in Helsinki in 2020.
“Nature and landscape are my inspiration, both abstractly and physically. Forests,
rocks, hillsides, sky, water and its reflections influence my work. Simplifying and
expressing my motive loosely, I aspire to achieve intuitive and painterly results.
My technique is stone lithography. Limestone, that I use as my matrix, inspires me as a
natural material. The fine surface pattern of the stone is an integral part of the message
I aim to convey. Limestone is 140-170 million years old - layers of eras physically
remaining in the memory of this material.”
